Squirrel-Eye View: Crafting Satire
Through Unique Perspectives

Background

When I thought of creating a satirical video project, I saw an opportunity to combine creative storytelling with technical expertise. The project aimed to present a unique perspective—literally—by capturing video and photos from both a squirrel’s point of view and a third-person observer.

The Approach

To bring this vision to life, I shot all of the original footage and photographs, excluding only the stock images and a few video clips of the squirrel itself. I employed a mix of equipment, including a Nikon DSLR for high-quality stills, a Canon camcorder for versatile video angles, and a GoPro action camera to achieve the up-close-and-personal shots needed for the squirrel’s perspective.

In addition to capturing new material, I incorporated photos from previous events, embracing a “recycling” approach to media assets. This not only added depth to the project but also demonstrated resourcefulness and efficiency in production.

The Creative Process

The introductory copy was crafted to set the tone for the satirical piece. Paired with dramatic music, the result was a humorous and thought-provoking experience. The project leaned into satire by combining seemingly serious visuals and sound with lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek messaging.

The Impact

The final product effectively showcased the power of creative perspectives, blending technical skill with a clever narrative. This project underscored how thoughtful planning, diverse media capture methods, and strategic use of existing assets can transform a simple idea into a polished, engaging piece of content. It also highlighted my ability to balance humor and professionalism, delivering a project that stood out for its originality and execution.
